Community guidelines
A few simple ground rules keep Madera Card Club fun for kids, parents, newcomers and veterans alike.
Respectful conduct
- Be kind. No harassment, hate, bullying or put-downs, in person or online.
- Everyone was a beginner once. Help, don't gatekeep.
- Keep language and topics suitable for a mixed-age crowd.
- Respect personal space, and never touch someone's cards without asking.
Fair trading
- Trade honestly. Look up values together, and never pressure anyone into a trade.
- Take extra care with younger or newer collectors. If a trade is lopsided, say so.
- "No thanks" is a complete answer. Trades are always optional.
- Once both sides agree and cards change hands, the trade is final, so take your time before you shake.
Card authenticity
- Only trade or sell cards you believe are genuine. Never knowingly pass off counterfeits, proxies, or altered cards as real.
- Proxies and custom cards are fine for casual play only when everyone at the table agrees, and are never traded as the real thing.
- If you think a card is fake, say it politely and privately.
Event behavior
- Play by the printed rules and be honest about your game state.
- Win graciously, lose gracefully, and shake hands.
- Treat the venue well and clean up after yourself.
- Organizers may ask someone to leave if they put others' enjoyment or safety at risk.
Safe public meetups
- Trade at organized public club events rather than arranging private meetups with people you've just met.
- If you meet someone outside an event, choose a busy public place in daylight and bring a friend or family member.
- Younger members should be accompanied by a parent or guardian at meetups.
- Never share your home address, and don't feel obligated to share your phone number.
- If something feels off, leave. Trust your gut and tell an organizer.
